Jenny is a 16 year old girl, whose mother has become terribly ill. Here she speaks of how her father finally returns back into her life after 1 years. (Father turns and walks away. Jenny moves back into her mother's hospital room. She moves to bed and looks down at her mothers closed eyes and pail face. All around her she hears the hum of machines. Her mother's heart rate appears to be faltering on the monitor. Jenny acknowledges this and begins speaking to her mother.)
I am sorry mum. I am sorry that he never loved you the way he was supposed to. I am sorry that he hurt you. I am sorry that he left when he was supposed to stand by you and I am sorry that he is not here now. (The heart rate displayed on the monitor weakens, Jenny holds her mothers hand in her own and tears begin to well in her eyes.) But I love you mum and I want you to know that I will always be here for you and I will never leave you or forget you or deny you. And I am sorry that dad never felt the same way but we don't need him we are strong…we're strong.
(A steady line forms on the heart monitor and a constant beep fills the air. Jenny knows that her mother is gone. She kisses her mothers and places it down beside her body and straightens the blankets.)
