TITLE OF YOUR ESSAY
In William Faulkner work "A Rose for Emily" the main character Emily is characterize in three different aspects. Faulkner view state that "The problem of the human heart in conflict with itself … alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat". (pp.76) Base on this statement Faulkner visibly characterizes Emily and the conflict that she under goes in her environment, with herself and others.
Mr. . Grierson and Emily were not rich but part of the upper class. For that reason Mr. Grierson was very snob. He felt superior than everyone "People and our town, remembering how old lady Wyatt, her great-aunt, had gone completely crazy at last, believed that the Grierson held themselves a little to high for what they really were". (pp.77)
During that time people were not as liberal as today, somethings were just unacceptable. In order for a woman to live her parent's house, she had to get married. Every young lady of that time dream of the day that they prince charming would come and ask for they hand, to live happily ever after. Only then can they go get married and build they own family. It was part of growing up the different stage in live that one had to take. Unfortunately for Emily because of her father illusion or superiority her dream almost past her bye. "None of the young men were quite good enough for Miss Emily and such". Every single guy who showed interest in her, her father turn down, he drove them all away. Very selfish, he did not allowed her to go and have a family of her own. That restrain was eating Ms Emily in her heart as she see all her chances of happiness pouched away. Ms Emily witness all the others ladies of her age getting married, having children, being happy. Her time was going right in front of her eyes; she knew that she was not getting younger and that her chances were getting les and less every day. "So when she turn thirty and was still single, we were not please exactly, but we vindicated; even with insanity in the family she would have turned down all her chances if they had really materialized". Everyone knew that her dad was to blame.
Only after her father died did a foreman named Homer Barron come into her life. All eyes were on them. "Presently we began to see him and Miss Emily on Sunday afternoons driving the yellow-wheeled buggy and the matched team of bays from the livery stable." Everyone was surprise that she finally found someone but at the same time unhappy about the situation. Just like her father they felt that Mr. Barron was not good enough for her, that he did not feet her social status. Long after her dad has past she was still being persecuted about her love life. I can only imagine the felling. One would think that everyone would be happy for her now that she is alone to find a significant other? Unfortunately that was not the case. Just when she tough she could finally love and be loved once again they was an obstacle. Miss Emily didn't let them get to her, she couldn't she needed that love so deeply.
A little over a year into the relation she felt the need to get married "We learn that Miss Emily went to the jeweler's and ordered a man toilet set in silver, the letters H.B. on each peace." (pp.7) It seems that Barron was not ready for a commitment and she just wouldn't let him go like that. He was all that she had, all that she loved. After all the humiliation, the life struggle to find love she found it unacceptable to let him go and she poisoned him.
