Its obvious that we shouldnt but Ill give the opposing debater a fair argument. My first reason that people should not be on welfare is because able bodied people can make their own decisions and if they make a mistake it shouldnt be at our expense. If we earn our own money then why shouldnt they? Its only fair that we all try at least to earn our own money. We should also get rid of genetic welfare. People are starting to think that if they were on welfare as a child then they cant get off of it as they grow up. People shouldnt think like that. They need to keep trying to rise out of poverty and achieve more to experience life more fully. Second argument My second reason for keeping people off welfare is has to do with teenagers. If they decide to have a child, then thats their fault, therefore they should make a life for themselves and not rely on the monthly welfare check to pay for their mistake. Furthermore, the welfare system is now set up to encourage welfare mothers to have more children because they actually make more money if they do! Third argument My last reason that welfare shouldnt be doled out is that Americans are paying 5 billion dollars per year for people on welfare. This is taking away money that people work hard for. If they are planning to get out of debt then maybe we can help them; but we dont want these people relying on welfare to always get them out of problems. If they have to, they can go through like the hard way. Couldnt their families, churches, or neighbors help them to step up and out of debt? Some truly disabled people clearly need help, but this is a totally different issue. Welfare abuse is actually hurting these people by using funds that could go to handicapped people and offer them a truly better way of life! Some of the able bodied people that are on welfare are drug addicts or alcoholics. Whats the point of them being on welfare when all were doing is paying for their addictions. Money is a privilege that should be earned and used wisely. People who are paying the taxes that go towards welfare arent necessarily rich and need the money to go to their families. It could buy tax paying people a lot of their own things and allow them to tend to their own needs more easily. Until welfare becomes a thing of the past, we are dooming a portion of our people to perpetual poverty. Is this the American way? I, for one, dont think so.
