Social Studies Essay
Mohandas K. Gandhi, also known as Mahatma Gandhi was both a simple and a complex man. His actions and beliefs not only shaped India's history but also showed the world a new weapon that was very powerful and used to fight against injustice. His powerful new weapon was civil disobedience, which was refusing to obey laws considered unjust.
Mahatma Gandhi's nonviolence protests were his way of getting people's attention to what he thought was unjust. Some nonviolent protests orchestrated by Gandhi were fasts, boycotting British clothing, and burning of the passbooks. One of the most famous protests was the Salt March. This march was to protest against the salt tax law and British rule over India. Twenty- five hundred Gandhi followers lined up in rows of four and let British police beat them with clubs and didn't fight back. This protest got the world's sympathy on the Indians side. Mahatma Gandhi preached nonviolence. All the protests and his actions were consistent with his philosophy.
In my life, like Gandhi, I think things are unjust. One thing that I think is unfair is the law against talking on cell phone while driving. This law prohibits you from driving in a car while talking on a cell phone because "it is distracting". The law makers think that the law will cut down automobile accidents. I think this is unjust because listening to the radio is just as distracting, if not more so, then talking on a cell phone, and it is completely legal to listen to the radio. They also band cell phone use in cars because you need to use a hand to use a cell phone. Most drivers don't even use two hands to drive. If Gandhi was in this situation he would have fought against this law in a non violent way. I think he would have boycotted cell phones so that the government would see that the law is silly. Gandhi might also have gotten all his people to agree with him and sign a petition against the law. It is hard to say exactly what Gandhi would have done in this situation, but one thing I do know is that he wouldn't have used violence.Custom Essays on paper
