He issued the Emancipation Proclamation, on January 1,186, that declared forever free those slaves within the confederacy. Twenty-three years after Abraham Lincoln and Dan Stone filed a protest and when Lincoln was nominated for president, slavery became a greater issue. When Lincoln was nominated, he said that his protest in the legislature still expressed his position on slavery, even after all of those years.
Although Abraham Lincoln went through many horrible trials and discouraging moments during his life, he was still a very honest, generous, and decent young man. Lincoln was an unsuccessful Illinois lawyer for twenty years, before he became president. The most unsuccessful part was mostly just for financial reasons.
