The closest Mme Beigne comes to warning Lucas of his dangerous activities is when she uses his new hairstyle to urge him "Lucas ...Don't do it", however she fails to specify what "it" represents, lacking solemn concern for him.She doesn't exert any serious authority, and once again retreats into her own self-involved world. During the incident after Caitlin's accident, she doesn't care to protect him from the swarming reporters, eager to discover the story. The rift between their relationships continues further, when Lucas reveals what Ruth exposed to him. Despite his revelations, her only response is "I've had the feeling all my life he lied to me". Furthermore, instead of discussing the signifiance of the matter to Lucas, so instead, leaves him alone in the room, once again retreating from unpleasant situations.
While Mme Beigne never actually admits, or take responsibility for Lucas's actions, the accounts of the situations involving him, justify her in the wrong.She doesn't seem to be involved in his life, therefore she is unable to relate to his problems and boredom that he is experiencing. Her failure in advising or directing him in the right direction, ultimately leads to his actions in thoughtless violence. She lacks concern for his whereabouts or safety, self-absorbed in her own world of problems.
